We approach challenges with passion, creativity, collaboration and strategic thinking. Since 1999, we’ve emphasized learning and finding more accurate ways to both define and measure success.

We’re big proponent of user-centric design. Our services include brand identity, user experience and mobile/responsive application design. We believe in building products that perform seamlessly and delight users. We are open to both waterfall and agile project approaches depending upon your needs.

Our Journey

1999

LION is founded as a website design and development studio in San Francisco, CA.

2003

LION moves to Sausalito, CA where we are awarded business of the year for our work with the city's visitor bureau.

2004

LION expands into a new location in San Francisco's east bay region of Emeryville, just a hop, skip and a jump away from Pixar Studios.

2005

LION helps launch the first iteration of Telltale Games' web presence and supports interactive design needs for games and marketing collaterals.

2006

LION begins working on UX/UI projects for the Facebook platform, notably the social calendaring tool called TimeLight.

2007

LION begins developing early websites for mobile platforms, particularly the initial releases of the iPhone.

2008

LION begins creating deeper relationships with restaurant and hotel groups such as W Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, JW Marriot, and a variety of Michelin-rated restaurant ventures.

2010

LION leads the brand extension of Mark West Wines into the digital world and scores multiple Addy's in a field saturated with much larger design firms. Mark West Wines goes on to be sold to Constellation Brands for $160M.

2011

LION begins a long-term relationship with Next Issue, an up-and-coming digital media venture, often referred to as the "Netflix of magazines," founded by Condé Nast, Time Magazine, Meredith, Hearst Media and News Corp.

2012

LION begins a long-term relationship with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and proceeds to replace a multi-million dollar antiquated Microsoft CMS solution with over 80 websites built on top of Wordpress as an evolving content management system.

2013

LION is an early adopter and promoter of user testing & split testing for optimization of conversion funnels. We score the FMP marketing award for our work on the DES Architect website.

2014

LION speaks at multiple conferences on the importance of digital branding and launches an in-house eCommerce and membership solution for WordPress.

2015

LION launches nearly 50 new websites and wins six notable awards. LION relocates to Berkeley's digital corridor near the Aquatic Park and pairs up with the Roda Group in a shared office space.
Today

LION has helped ULI to create sites that are engaging for our visitors, easy for our staff to update, and scalable as our organization grows and evolves.
